A Healing space

I recall reading an article, a few years ago, about a local doctor who gave up his medical practice to buy a farm right here in New Jersey. The farm, grew organic food and provided a healing space for his patients to heal from their conditions. It turns out that clean food, time in nature, and guidance can be a cure for many of the conditions that plague the citizens of the Western world. It should be common knowledge that chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, some auto-immune disorders, and even cancer can be addressed holistically and are even preventable! Of course, I had my own insight about this but to see the implementation of a truly healing and preventative system sparked something in me.

You see, I dreamed of creating a healing space for people who suffered from pelvic floor dysfunction to recover and heal too. I believed that many of the pelvic floor conditions I was treating such as pelvic pain, low back pain, CPPS, and PGAD (just to name a few) were nervous system related. I noticed that patients presenting in my office often experienced some form of trauma or had very stressful lifestyles. It was my belief that if I could get them out of the current environment and give them the opportunity to feel safe in their bodies, they would recover and could begin the healing process. With the help and guidance from professionals, fresh air, nature, nourishing foods, and even a community of individuals with similar circumstances, I was confident that healing would occur.

Unfortunately, life got busy and a pandemic swept through the human population and I was not able to test out my hypothesis. During that time, I noticed an increase in the painful conditions I was treating. Naturally, I wondered if the pandemic was another source of stress and trauma, resulting in the increase in chronic pain conditions. That dream only grew stronger, despite the limitations to travel and group gatherings.

To overcome some of those limitations, I hosted small group gatherings, sound healing sessions, yoga and other embodied movement workshops. I discovered and recommended books, podcasts, articles, and documentaries supporting my thoughts around stress, trauma and chronic conditions. I noticed that patients were healing from months or years of chronic pain with embodied practices, education regarding the nervous system, and on going support. This was confirmation that given the right conditions, healing was possible through a holistic approach.

Something, however, was missing for some patients. They simply could not escape the grasp of the sympathetic nervous system. They were stuck in a stress response and needed something more drastic and immersive. My solution was to find a space that provided a natural healing space. And that is where I discovered Bali. I will be hosting a  7 day retreat in healing lands of Bali. Here, participants can take advantage of the change in scenery, the healing power of nature and nourishing food, all in the absence of family, work, and other daily stressors. They get the opportunity to leave all the stress behind, and fully immerse themselves in recovery and healing with guidance, support and community.

If you struggle with a chronic condition, you’re well aware of the fact that stress increases your discomfort and your symptoms. This is an opportunity to not only decrease your stress, but to also have the support of several professionals who will guide and assist the mind and body in recovery and healing.
